Checklist: Installing an IP Address resource

Obtain an Internet Protocol (IP) address and subnet mask from your network administrator.

This address must be a static IP address not already in use on the network. Make sure that the subnet mask is the same subnet mask as the one for the associated cluster network.

IP addressing and routing
Determine whether or not NetBIOS needs to be enabled for this IP address.

If NetBIOS for the IP address is enabled, it allows a dependent network name to be published using NetBIOS. If it is not enabled, the dependent network name will only be published using DNS.
